What is the fretboard radius of my guitar or what fretpad should I use?

To achieve a perfect fit, the Thalia Capo comes with multiple interchangeable fretpads so that you can match the fretboard radius of your specific guitar.   Check out our Fretboard Radius Database to find a table that lists common fretboard radii used by major guitar makers.  If you do not find your specific brand and model guitar below you can google your guitar make/model plus the words "fretboard radius"; if that doesn't work you can use the manual method.

Will this work on my 12-string or 8-string guitar?

The Thalia Capo is unique because you can swap out the fretpads to get a perfect fit on your guitar.  For 12-string & 8-string guitars we recommend the use of our High Tension Rubber fretpads, which are 2mm taller than the fretpads that come with every Thalia Capo.  This extra height increases tension to ensure that the octave strings on your guitar are fretted perfectly. 

Will this work on a Ukulele, Banjo or Mandolin?

You can use a Thalia Capo on a Ukulele, Banjo or Mandolin, and will need our high tension fretpads which are 2mm taller than our standard guitar fretpads.  The good news is that these are included with every capo. 

What is your return policy?

Thalia Capos is committed to quality and all Thalia Capos come with a LIFETIME WARRANTY; this includes the mechanical function of the capo including the spring, lever and housing of the capo. If something goes wrong drop us a line at support@thaliacapos.com and we will fix it or replace it for the costs of shipping the original product back and the costs of shipping the replacement to you.

Please note that this warranty does not cover misuse, accidental damage, rubber, cosmetic wear or scratches to the metal finish.

Where are Thalia Capos made and how do you control quality?

We tried really hard to manufacture the Thalia Capo in the USA but were not able to even come close to a price that would work. So we made a compromise. We will do partial assembly in China and then final assembly and test in the USA. This approach ensures that we will personally touch every capo before it reaches the hands of our customer. Our team here in California proudly sources, fabricates and assembles all of inlays into the capos while completing final inspection and test. Should I apply the Thalia Capo from the top of bottom of the neck?

Our capos may be applied from either the top (bass side) or bottom (treble side) of the neck.  The orientation that you prefer is really a personal preference as it does not affect the tonal performance of the capo.  However, we believe that the most intuitive and comfortable application is from the bottom or treble side.  So we RECOMMEND treble orientation if you are uncertain.

How come some capos cost more than others?

We fabricate a wide variety of inlays for our capos.  Some inlay materials cost a lot more than others and in some instances we have to scrap more of one type of inlay than another to meet our quality standards.  For example, Birdseye Maple costs significantly more than other woods and certain shells are more fragile during installation, resulting in more scrap.  We work hard to keep our costs down so that we can offer a wide variety of choices but some unfortunately some inlays will just cost more than others.

How do you pronounce Thalia?

We pronounce it "THAYL-yah".We named our daughter Thalia after our favorite surf break and beach in our hometown of Laguna Beach, California.  In Greek, Thalia means "to blossom" and in Greek mythology, Thalia was one of the nine Muses.  

Do I need to place the capo close to the fret?

Most guitarists are conditioned to place the capo as close to the fret as possible to avoid tuning issues. In fact, this is a best practice if you are using any other capo on the market... However, the Thalia Capo is different. Since the Thalia Capo has fretpads that match the fretboard radius of your guitar, it does not need to be placed that close to the fret to have perfect intonation. In fact, I often place the capo in middle of the fret or even slightly further back, giving you plenty of room to do B7 and other chords shapes where you might come in contact with the capo. The only exception to this rule is on fret 1, where the tension caused by the proximity to the nut requires you to move it a bit closer than the middle.
